Loch Clare and Liathach, Torridon Scotland

Highlights include

This five day Scotland photo tour starts and ends in the Highland capital Inverness. It’s packed with  handpicked photo locations chosen by master photographer and guide Glen Campbell.

You’ll venture into a world well away from the busy touristy spots  that will leave a lasting impression. The only things that this photo tour lacks is … crowds. With so many  locations around the world and Scotland becoming over visited this tour manages to get you off the well worn tourist trails.

This means that your experience in the Highlands is one of positive memories with moments of peace and quiet reflection and stunning imagery.

Many of the Highland’s finest landscapes lie in the far north west, offering classic scenes, romantic empty Glens and mist topped peaks. From Torridon on the Atlantic coast to Inverpolly, Assynt and Coigach and the superb empty beaches in North West Sutherland, this is Scotland for the Connoisseur.

To break it up you’ll also photograph parts of the Moray Coast to the east of Inverness. A well kept secret so far, this is a coastline that was ranked in a list as one of the top 12 coastlines in the world by a National Geographic panel. Book a place now.

If your visiting Scotland for longer I’d be more than happy to provide you with a complimentry onward itinerary and suggestions for other great locations in the Highlands and Islands. GC

 Scotland photo tour trip summary

Torridon

Loch Maree and Slioch Torridon Scotland photo tour

Loch Maree and Slioch Torridon

To the north west of the Highland capital Inverness, lie the dramatic Torridon mountains, one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland and less visited. Ben Eighe, Liathach and Ben Alligin rise high above the tumbling rivers and glittering lochs below, popular with climbers and hikers they’re fantastic to both photograph and explore.

Glen Docherty and Loch Maree Scotland photo tour

Glen Docherty and Loch Mare

At the end of Glen Torridon lies Scotlands 4th biggest loch, Loch Maree, it’s shore’s dotted with stands of iconic Scots Pine trees, the vistas here make for great dusk compositions as the sun sets over brooding Slioch, which sits on its northern shore.

Moray Coast

The Moray Coast, recently added to the world’s top 12 coastlines list by a National Geographic panel is located to the east of Inverness on the Moray Firth.

Bow Fiddle Rock, Moray Coast Scotland photo tour

Bow FiddleRock Moray Coast

You’ll be photographing the Bowfiddle Rock, villages of Cullen, Findhorn and the beaches and coves around Hopeman.

Inverpolly Assynt and Coigach

After a couple of nights in the village of Beauly near Inverness we’ll make our way  north to the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool.  We are now in easy reach  of some of the Highlands best kept secrets with some of the  best scenery and mountains in the Scottish Highlands.

The mountainous area of Inverpolly and Assynt are often  described as “Scotland for the connoisseur”  as well as the land where “Viking gods practiced making mountains”.  A land of sparkling lochs and a coastline fringed by pristine sandy beaches, this is one of my top picks for places to photograph in Scotland.

Kylesku bridge Sutherland Scotland photo tour

Kylesku Bridge Sutherland

It’s also much quieter than some of Scotland’s better known locations at this time of year. It’s this sense of  sense of peace, quiet and wide open spaces that makes it so special.   The far North West Highlands  are often a highlight for landscape  photographers that I’ve guided around Scotland.  Once again I’m delighted to add this combination of special  locations to the 2020 schedule and  share some of its hidden treasures with my guests.

North West Sutherland

North West Sutherland

From Ullapool you’ll continue north until  we meet the sea. Tucked away in this most northerly corner of the British Isles lie some of its most evocative and photogenic landscapes.

After passing and photographing the ruin of Ardvreck Castle by  Loch Assynt and crossing over the fantastic Kylesku bridge we head into the far North West Highlands. A land of empty  white sand  beaches, shimmery seascapes and high misty peaks. This is remote country with a small population living by empty Glen’s that are still home to herds  of roaming wild stags.

We have lots of options here and the light will play a part on which locations we choose  to photograph and explore. Some options include Oldshormore beach and Sandwoood Bay, the latter being a moderate hike over flat terrain and said to be the UK’s most beautiful (and haunted) beach.

From our base in the village of Tongue we’ll  venture out into one of the empty Glen’s to photograph one of the most beautiful mountains, the Queen of the Highlands, Ben Loyal.
