Destination summary

Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs has the distinction as being  Scotland’s first National Park.  It lies across a geographic fault line  in the western part of the Southern Highlands just an hours drive north of Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow. It’s famously packed full of mountain peaks,  often misty lochs and forested parks that the illusive Highland wildlife call home.

This is romantic Scotland where Highland legends wandered its loch-side shores, forested hills and open moors.   There’s an abundance of history and myth to go with the landscapes that Sir Walter Scott and Ossian used as romantic backdrops for their world famous stories and poems. From the Lady of the Lake to Rob Roy MacGregor, here in the beautiful southern Highlands both infamy and romance sit side by side.

As we head west towards the National Park we’ll pass by Stirling castle and The Wallace Monument for an introduction into Scotland’s history and our first photo opportunity. Followed by shoreside sessions at Loch Ard Basin to capture the boats sheds, jettys and birdlife and simpler compositions over Loch Arklet to Ben Vorlich.  A pre dusk walk up Conic Hill provides one of the best views over the UK’s biggest Loch before a final sunset session with a lone tree at Milarrochy Bay.

After a dawn shoot over Loch Lomond we travel north through the Achray Forest and capture the hill top views over the Trossachs to Loch Katrine. To the east we’ll explore Brig O’ Turk and Ruskin falls, the Loch Arklet shore and a stunning set of waterfalls deep in the forest. Doune castle was featured in the TV series Outlander and Game of Thrones and we’ll pass through the pretty village and capture some images of this photogenic castle over the river Teith before returning

Once into the glens and mountains you’ll explore some of more evocative loch-side locations then take to the hills for short walks to view some of its  best known vistas of the surrounding mountains, lochs and glens.

The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs workshop  requires and overnight stay around the Loch Lomond area.
